Christmas tree

On Christmas Day 1998 we were at a friends house just down the road from ours. I took a walk home to get some things (beer) and I saw what I thought was a cat. As it turned out it was a puppy.
I gave it a pet and got my beer and went back.

We came home about an hour later the pup was still by our car. My wife took it into the trailer and I went from trailer to trailer to find out if someone had lost a great Christmas gift. I came home and my wife told me that it looked like the pup had been thrown out of a car. It was all scraped up and her skin was embedded with gravel.

The poor pup was so scared that the first thing she did was find a place to hide. But it wasn't to long before she came out and found the food and water for the cats. So I don't think she was hurt too badly.

Well we all settled down for the night. But when we got up in the morning we couldn't find her. She had cut a hole in the bottom of the hassock and crawled up there for the night.
I guess she felt safer there.

For the next three weeks my wife would come home from work and ask if I had given the pup a name yet. I would answer no I'm going to find her a good home.
We had two cats and a dog at the time.

All this time the pup was growing like a weed. She could no longer fit under the hassock or couch and it was getting to be a tight fit for her to hide under the dresser. She had made friends with the cats and the other dog and was getting very protective of us.

Three weeks to the day that I found the pup my wife came home from work and asked did you find a home for the dog yet? I said yes. (and saw her face drop) I found her a home right after she named herself.
Her name is Hidie and her home is right here with us.

Hidie
"THE CHRISTMAS PUPPER"
had at last found a good home.

In the last few years she has paid us back many times over.
She stopped someone that was trying to break into our home.
She adopted two three week old kittens whose mother was killed.
Just to name a few.

She's also a better mouser than the cats. (6 so far) (Correction 7) (Correction 8) She doesn't hurt them. She just puts them under house arrest till I throw them out.

UPDATE

On 10/20/2005
Hidie adopted two new abandoned kittens.

10/27/2006
Another kitten was adopted by Hidie

Hidie passed away on 10/04/08 at home with Barb and I.
Hidie is greatly missed.

In closing all I can say is that we were
very lucky that Hidie
(The Christmas Pupper)
chose our family.

Thanks Anne!

Our beloved Hidie passed away today (10/04/2008) and a big part of our Christmas joy died with her.
Rest in peace Hidie Pupper.

My Hidie was a special dog I know she gave her best, But as I looked deep into her eyes I knew it was time, for her to rest.
It will truely be a struggle I don't know how I'll face each day, I have to let her go--I know But in my heart she'll always stay.
We will miss you Pupper each day you are gone.
